Wireless Handpad Button Guard

JMC-WHBG

Thank you for purchasing the Wireless Handpad Button Guard made especially for the ServoCAT “CATpaw” Wireless Handpad.  If you’ve ever carried your wireless handpad in a shirt or coat pocket, you’ve probably at one time or another initiated a GOTO or slew by accidentally pressing one of the buttons.  This simple device provides a surface that is flush with the buttons of your wireless handpad, thus greatly reducing the chance of accidentally initiating a slew or GOTO.  It also helps avoid dead batteries caused by something holding one of the buttons down when stored away.

In order to make sure the button guard is positioned correctly, I recommend that you remove the front of the wireless handpad case prior to installation.  Please follow these simple instructions:

  1. Remove the four screws from the back of the wireless handpad and set them aside.  Carefully separate the two case halves of the wireless handpad and set the back half containing the circuit board aside.

  1. Clean the face of the wireless handpad with glass cleaner to ensure good adhesion of the foam tape.

Caution - Do not allow the tape to make contact with the face of the wireless handpad until it is positioned properly.  Once the foam tape has made contact, you will not be able to adjust the position without destroying the tape.  Replacement tape can be found at most hobby shops.

  1. Remove the paper backing from the 4 pieces of double sided foam tape that are already attached to the button guard.  Carefully position the button guard on the face of the wireless handpad, making sure the holes in the button guard are accurately aligned with those in the face of the wireless handpad.  Please note, the hole for the GOTO button is intentionally a little larger than the others.  Once you are satisfied with the alignment, press the button guard onto the faceplate.
  2. Reassemble the wireless handpad by reversing the instructions in step number 1.

Once installed, do not attempt to pull the button guard off of the wireless handpad as it will cause the thin plastic faceplate to lift off of the case.  Instead, use a thin piece of stiff cardboard, like a business card, to saw though the tape at each corner.  Once separated, the remnants of the tape can be removed.
